The Chaseley Trust
The Chaseley Trust is a specialist residential nursing home in Eastbourne, providing expert care and rehabilitation for people with complex neurological conditions. With a large, diverse workforce supporting residents with highly individual needs, strong and aligned leadership is critical.
The Chaseley Trust brought together a new Senior Leadership Team and wanted to ensure they didn’t just operate as a group of capable individuals, but as a cohesive, high-performing team, through a leadership training course. The brief was to support them over time, building trust, strengthening collaboration, and equipping them with the skills to lead confidently across a dispersed and demanding organisation.
This wasn’t about a single intervention. It was about sustained development. The aim was to help the team understand themselves and each other better, tackle shared organisational challenges and lead their own teams with greater clarity and consistency.
Over the course of approximately 12 months, we delivered a structured leadership development programme and leadership training course that combining training and coaching across 13 sessions.
We began with DISC profiling to build self-awareness and create a shared language around behaviour and communication. From there, each session focused on a critical aspect of leadership within Chaseley’s context: team engagement and motivation, purpose and culture, managing people performance, effective one-to-ones, learning styles and motivational theory, emotional intelligence, communication skills, problem solving, time and energy management, conflict management, running effective meetings, and developing a strong organisational culture.
Every session was practical and discussion-led, grounded in the real challenges the leaders were facing, both collectively and within their own departments. The space allowed them to step back from day-to-day pressures and think strategically about how they were leading as well as offering new ideas and approaches.
Crucially, at the end of each leadership training course, every leader committed to specific actions. These commitments were revisited at the start of the following session, creating accountability and shared learning.
The impact was far-ranging, from developing the professional relationships among the leadership team for a strong high-performing team, greater understanding of one another’s perspectives and priorities through to operational improvements such as a more clearly defined culture, Emotional intelligence training to support their management capabilities and much more.
“I learnt quite a lot about myself during that initial presentation.
You feel empowered to want to make a change, develop and improve your organisation. I wanted to share that journey with the rest of my management team.
It’s really given us as a team a chance to grow, to be stronger and to be in a better mindset as to how to support our staff. It’s a massive staff team here and Tim’s been really helpful in putting procedures together for us to ensure we are leading and managing effectively.
Tim has been our superstar and our guiding light in our transition. “
