The Co-Directors of Sussex Facilities Management initially met UK Growth Coach through networking and discovered that, despite their market leading knowledge and expertise in their sector, there were aspects of running a business which they knew considerably less about that would hinder their business ambitions.
Appreciating that they needed to integrate more business skills into their leadership to sit alongside their industry skills, they booked themselves a complimentary 90-minute business review to chat through their current situation and goals for the future.
The Business Review identified that they were at the ‘Basically Functional’ stage (where they were profitable and working satisfactorily) and wanted to now scale the business including becoming more profitable, without sacrificing their own work-life balance to achieve that.
The owners also recognised there were gaps in their knowledge, some of which they were aware of and others they probably weren’t! They wanted a coach who could shine a light on these areas and educate them.
They therefore chose UK Growth Coach as their small business coaching partner to take them on that journey!
The small business coaching started with revisiting the business purpose, vision, values and service intent. This was to lay the foundation of the direction of travel the business was to take and give them the key strategic messages for along the way.

As you’ll have heard in the video, Sussex Facilities Management has generated some of its largest clients in recent times and is growing at a faster rate than expected. There has been significant growth both in terms of their turnover and profitability.
Last year their turnover doubled, and the expectation that the same will happen again this year, taking their annual turnover to around £1.5 million.
With new ideas they wouldn’t have thought of, new processes and systems as well as new skills for themselves, the Directors are confident about being about to achieve business success as they scale their business.
Through having a greater understanding of the current business metrics, they have clarity on the future too!
They have an improved team structure with greater clarity for their team as to their roles, responsibilities, and how they fit into the bigger picture for the company. This has helped not only with staff retention, development, and engagement but also with the recruitment of new team members.
Perhaps one of the greatest results has been the fact that all of this has been achieved without compromising the work-life balance of the Directors. They remain in control of a rapidly growing company, but are still able to take their holidays and not just plough all their ‘free time’ into the business.
